Visiting an international school in Nha Trang for the first time, most parents ask about fees and class size, then run out of questions. The better ones tend to arrive on the drive home. Use the seven below on every tour and you can compare schools fairly, without leaning on a brochure or a good first impression.
How to compare an international school in Nha Trang
Ask every school the same seven questions: which curriculum it follows, who teaches, how it supports English, where students study as they grow, how parents see progress, what happens after school, and what the fees include. Write the answers down. The school that answers with names and numbers usually knows its own classrooms best. Do it the same day. After three tours of an international school in Nha Trang the details blur, and your notes become the thing you actually decide from.
7 questions to ask at any international school in Nha Trang
1. Which curriculum do you follow, and who sets the exams?
Some schools write their own program. Others follow a published one such as Cambridge International, where an outside body sets and marks the exams. Both can work, but you should know which one you are paying for. Ask where students sit their final exams and who marks them. AVE Academy teaches the Cambridge International Curriculum. It was the first school in Nha Trang to introduce it and the first to set up an IGCSE program, taking students to Ho Chi Minh City for their official exams. Our guide to the Cambridge curriculum in Vietnam explains each stage.
2. Who will actually teach my child?
Ask how many teachers are qualified in their home country, how many are international, and how long the average teacher stays. High turnover is the quiet problem at many schools, and a good school will give you a straight answer. AVE has more than 20 international teachers this year, working alongside teaching assistants and specialist extracurricular staff. They teach over 320 students from Year 1 to Year 11.
3. How will you support my child’s English?
Not every student arrives fluent, and every international school in Nha Trang handles that differently. Ask how the school tests English level, what extra support exists, and whether it costs extra. A vague answer here often means children get left behind in the first term. At AVE, the Extended English Support Program (EESP) runs Monday to Thursday after school for students in Years 4 to 9. It focuses on academic English vocabulary and usage and is taught by AVE’s own educators.
4. Where will my child study as they get older?
Many families skip this question until the school run becomes a problem. Ask to see the campus your child will use in three years, not only the one at the front of the brochure. AVE runs three campuses arranged by age group. This year brought a new sports field at Campus 3, a large extension at Campus 1, and upgrades at Campus 2.
5. How will I know how my child is doing?
A report card twice a year is too little. Ask how often parents hear from teachers, and what they can see in between. AVE built its own platform, Auri Bori, for this reason. Parents log in to see real-time progress, their child’s strengths and the areas where support would help most, and can message teachers directly. Students can also do their homework, lessons, games and quizzes there from any device. Our guide to how you can help your child learn English at home shows one way parents use it.
6. What happens after the bell?
After school time shapes a child’s week as much as lessons do, and few families compare it when they choose an international school in Nha Trang. Ask what is offered, who runs it, and what it costs. This term AVE runs sports, arts and craft, Cambridge Math and Science support, and English support from 3:45 to 4:45 PM, Monday to Thursday. The full list is in our guide to after school programs in Nha Trang.
7. What do the fees include, and what costs extra?
Ask for a written fee schedule. Check uniforms, books, exam entry fees, trips and after school programs, which often sit outside the headline figure. AVE’s current fees are on our tuition fees page, and the admissions team can walk you through them.
